Stroud is a delightful place to visit with many activities and attractions within close proximity. We have superb restaurants, a thriving artistic community and annual festivals for textiles, food, walking, music and arts. The award-winning Farmers’ Market is weekly (Saturday) and is one of the best in the country. This is a place that repays investigation, especially for the quality and variety of artists at work in the area – you could also choose to take part in one of the many traditional workshops! The month of May sees Open Studios and the Select International textile festival. Stroud is also notable for being a hub of alternative lifestyles, therapies and culture, with many courses and workshops to offer.

Stroud is encircled by five sweeping valleys opening out to the River Severn and made famous by Laurie Lee’s novel “Cider with Rosie”. The scenery is dramatic around Stroud and the air and river are clear. It is a great meeting place, with direct links to London, making it a Bohemian/café/gallery/ bookshop sort of place. Jasper Conran described the town as ‘the Covent Garden of the Cotswolds’. Easy access to the countryside and Cheltenham, Swindon and Gloucester by train.

interesting house as it was 400 years old. The age made it difficult for the owner to make a bathroom with a high standard, but it was en suite with toalett and shower in a Ok standard. The stairs up to the room was very steep and narrow (like in a tower of a church), but I see from the webpage that the B&B is not suitable for people with mobility problems.
